Manhole Sewer Spill
Sewage spills don’t all look the same. They can be a very obvious gushing of water from a manhole or a slow leak that may take time to notice. All of the pictures rotating on this page are examples of sewer spills. Sewage spills can come from manholes, cleanouts or outside drains, from sidewalks and external walls, or from ground and landscaped areas around buildings. If you see water leaking, especially water with a foul odor and you suspect there might be a sewage leak please call (408) 794-1900 during normal business hours, or (408) 277-8956 outside of normal business hours immediately!

Sewer problems can pose a risk to human health, the environment, private property, and negatively impact the local economy via increased maintenance costs. The longer sewer problems go unresolved, the more serious they become. Please call right away if you have even the slightest suspicion that there might be a sewage spill.

City sewer crews try to respond to each call within 30 minutes in an effort to contain the spill and stop the flow from reaching surface waters or storm drains. To report a sewer problem, call and tell us the location (with an address if possible), your name, and a phone number for follow-up information.
