Living Wage

LIVING WAGE POLICY - WHO IS COVERED?
It is the policy of the City of San José that persons doing work on, for or on behalf of the City for services that are provided directly to the City or for services otherwise provided by City employees or who receive financial assistance from the City should be paid a living wage, be provided with or able to afford health insurance, have reasonable time off, not be subject to lay off merely because the City changes contractors and should work in an environment of labor peace.

Living Wage Policy is applied to contracts over $20,000 awarded through a competitive process for services that fall into one of 18 covered categories. Subcontractors are included.

For work classifications where living wage and prevailing wage are applicable, use the higher rate.

Living Wage rates are adjusted annually on July 1. For contracts advertised and entered into after July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020, the living wage rates are:

$22.68 per hour $23.93 per hour
